The West Harlem Development Corporation
"Maybe you could be a mayor or a Senator or a Supreme Court Justice, but you might not know that until you join student government or the debate team." - President Obama, Columbia University Graduate and First African American President of the United States
In February we celebrate African American History Month with New York City's Harlem Debates. Sponsored by the West Harlem Development Corporation (WHDC). This is a free debate tournament for all schools in Harlem and for all schools of the New York City Urban Debate League. Thank you to Harlem Schools, PS 161, Hamilton Grange, and PS 180 Hugo Newman for hosting.
The mission of The West Harlem Development Corporation (WHDC) is to promote increased economic opportunities and quality of life to sustain a vibrant community in West Harlem. WHDC is a model organization that effectively manages the Community Benefits Agreement with Columbia University through organizational collaborations and leveraging of resources to make significant contributions to the lives of the people of West Harlem.
